This research describes a fast detection method on the basis of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for Escherichia coli in drainage of wastewater treatment plants. Optimized conditions such as the reaction format (sandwich or direct), the concentrations
of diluted horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-E. coli conjugate, and anti-HPR antibody and pretreatment of E. coli were studied. Those results showed that the linear range of detection for E. coli was 10 cfu/mL-6 × 104 cfu/mL. Compared with conventional methods, it is a convenient and sensitive detection method with low cost.

This paper examines the relationship between North American beef consumption and deforestation in South and Central America.
Some writers have argued that consumption of hamburgers in North America, particularly hamburgers consumed in fast food restaurants,
contributes to the depletion of the rainforest in South and Central America. We survey the published policy literature on
the causes of rainforest depletion in the region. We also review the published estimates of the rate and extent of clearing
of rainforest that has occurred in South and Central America since 1970. Finally, we review the data on beef imports and consumption
in Canada and the United States in a effort to assess the importance of South and Central America as suppliers of beef to
the North American market. We conclude that the relationship between beef consumption in North America should not be considered
an important cause of forest depletion in South and Central America. Domestic policies and market forces in the countries
where rainforests are located are the leading causes of rainforest depletion in this region. This lesson seems to have been
lost on some popular and even some textbook writers on this subject.

A stain-based screening method was developed to screen different catalyst coatings for their germicidal activity. A Baclight dead/live bacteria viability kit (invitrogen, molecular probes) was used for staining the cell. The screening was carried out following a standard procedure. This included loading cell suspension to solid surface and maintaining contact for 30 min, then staining with a mixture containing dyes. The stained cells were observed using an epifluorescent microscope and photographed with a CCD camera under UV. Metal-doped TiO2 coatings on AI plates were prepared and tested for non-UV germicidal activity without using UV. It was tested using model microorganisms such as Bakers Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas putida, and Escherichia coli. On the basis of the germicidal activity of catalyst and the degree of damage caused to the cells, the stained cells may appear green (viable), green with red or yellow nuclei and yellow (compromised) or red (nonviable). According to their stained color, cells were counted to calculate the percentage of dead, live, and compromised cells. Compromised cells are cells that grow very slowly after reculturing indicating a degree of reversible cell damage. Screening the germicidal activity using this staining method is accurate and efficient, and requires less time than the culture-based method. A modification to the procedure for measuring germicidal activity of rough surfaces or fibrous coatings was developed. Both TiO2 and metal-doped TiO2 (Ag, Pt, Au, Cu) possess non-UV based germicidal activity. The germicidal activity of TiO2 was found to be related with its wetting property and can be improved by UV irradiation before testing. 针对S.xinjiangensis分类地位的争议,从新疆再次分离获得34株快生大豆根瘤菌,在16SrDNAPCR-RFLP分析和SDS全细胞蛋白电泳分群的基础上,进行了16SrDNA全序列相似性和DNA同源性分析.所测4个菌株和S.fredii模式菌株USDA205的16SrDNA全序列有很高的相似性.而DNA同源性分析说明新分离的菌株代表与原定的S.xinjiangensis为一个DNA同源群.其模式菌株CCBAU110与S.fredii的2株参比菌株USDA194、2048之间的DNA同源性分别为31.5%和28.7%.S.fredii的模式菌株USDA205与新分离的菌株代表及原定的S.xinjiangensis的模式菌株和2个参比菌株之间的DNA同源性为20.8%~39%,远低于70%.属于种水平上的差异.按照国际细菌分类委员会以DNA同源性≥70%且△Tm≤5℃作为定种的标准,S.xinjiangensis是Sinorhizobium属中不同于S.fredii的一个独立的种.表3参20 相似文献
